Community Cares – Farmers’ Market Nutrition Coupon Program
Luckily for us, farmers’ markets have been deemed an essential service. As an added bonus during these hard times; Invermere's Agri-park market is a part of the BC Farmers’ Market Association, which means they are part of the Farmers Market Nutrition Coupon Program (FMNCP). The FMNCP is a healthy eating initiative designed to strengthen food security and support local farmers across British Columbia. The Columbia Valley Food Bank is the Valley's community partner and they provide coupons to lower-income families, pregnant women and seniors who are participants in the food literacy program. The Snack Box for Kids Program expects to provide up to 200 children and youth with a weekly delivery containing 3 to 4 days worth of healthy snacks.

There have been concerns that COVID-19 can be spread through food. According to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, “scientists and food safety authorities across the world are closely monitoring the spread of COVID-19. There is currently no evidence that food is a likely source or route of transmission of the virus.” This message is also reinforced by the BC Centre for Disease Control. They do stress the importance of practicing the usual good food safety hygiene practices during food handling and preparation.
